Need help deciding which profession to select in Guild Wars 2? MMO-Mechanics has you covered! Over the next few weeks, we will highlight each profession available with a brief overview of game play, archetype, and other unique characteristics about the profession to help our fans choose the right profession.
The Engineer is a new profession to the Guild Wars series, defined as a technological genius and skilled at making alchemy concoctions. Engineers have a wealth of ranged creations at their disposal, including turrets, grenades, and elixirs to help them defeat oncoming enemies. Engineers come from the Adventurer category which allows them to wear medium armor; keeping them lithe enough to maneuver the battlefield and receive modest punishment without yielding defeat.
Engineers (being tinkerers, naturally) use a tool belt as their special ability, which will enhance already existing skills that are currently equipped. Using the tool belt ability when having a grenade utility skill equipped would allow the Engineer to throw multiple grenades at an enemy, making them an AoE juggernaut. Benefits also occur for healing skills combined with the tool belt, such as throwing elixirs and granting their benefits in an AoE healing radius.
Engineers prefer to stay afar while attacking and opt to use ranged weapons. They will use a two-handed weapon such as a rifle to inflict a heavy blast of damage onto foes from afar. Engineers also can use a combination of one-handed weapons and off-hand items (such as a shield) to allow for a hybrid approach; two pistols for dual wielding damage and utility, or a pistol and shield combination for support. Engineers only have one weapon for aquatic combat, the harpoon gun due to their ability to switch weapon kits (additional/improved utility) on the fly.
