I'm not sure I buy that, considering you're only about 4.2% behind the top Sorc spec, and the Sorc specs have undergone extensive gear optimization (the Merc gear lists are still default Campaign). I have a feeling that with optimized gear, Arsenal will be up there with Sorcs, which while not top DPS (that honor, among the current SimC classes, belongs to Assassins, at 7.2% ahead of Sorcs), is still plenty "viable".
Even Angels must kill from time to time...

As you can see, Arsenal is beating the top Sorc build by ~1%. Based on previous results for Sorcs, I can estimate that this places Arsenal around 4-8% behind the top DPS specs in the game, assuming similarly optimized gear. Even Angels must kill from time to time...

and on that profile, with the bugfix today for unload mercenary gets an additional 100 or so dps, putting it up around 1950. I'll get those results updated soon.
So mercs are theoretically well ahead of sorcs in BiS. And while assassins may theoretically be better based on previous BiS lists, the melee penalty makes Mercs look pretty good right now. |

Where does this simulation place snipers and marauders? Those are top dps classes for actual raid fights as far as my experience goes. I know some very competitive Assasins and they really don't stand a chance of winning a raid fight. It's not a mele dissadvantage either cause I know a marauder that is always neck and neck with me.
1950 is a little misleading. I am 100% BiS and test on the ops dummy in my ship every day. 2000 dps is maintainable for 30 seconds, but not any longer due to unload bugging and RNG. 1875 is a realistic number for a 3-5 minute fight in perfect conditions on a dummy. Sims are a nice tool, but the real comparison should be based on what actually happens on a live fight. I would hate to be balanced against other classes based off a sim. |
