Dying Gear Spreadsheet
Hello Everyone!

I have been a long time reader, but never really contributed back to the community. I think it is time I changed that habit and wanted to present a spreadsheet that I have been working on for the last few weeks. Please keep in mind, that this is a work in progress. I have lots of potential plans for where this could go, but at this point I simply need external opinions on my work done thus far.

I should start out by giving my sincere thanks and appreciation to all major players on this forum who also help push further progression into theory crafting; especially Freehugs and Elobi whose information I used as reference and inspiration.

Basically, the idea that started this spreadsheet is that I'm lazy and I got tired of performing different calculations on various item modification pieces, then inputting the results into a spreadsheet and the repeating the process just to see if MOD-A or MOD-B was better; and repeating it even further for the many multiple combinations in the game. So, in order to allow me to be lazy, I invested a few weeks into building a spreadsheet that allows for easy selection and automatic calculation of total gear slot stats. I think the spreadsheet is pretty self-intuitive, but then again I've been working on it for a bit so I’m accustomed to it. Lol Anyways, here is a small explanation:

Step 1: Input Data
Each Gear item slot is now setup to be easily grouped in order to reduce the amount of clutter on the spreadsheet and provide a simply view of the total stats for each gear item. The groups can be expanded and compacted by clicking on the + and - to the left of the sheet, respectfully. As seen in the photo below, the Ear item group is currently expanded while the Implant 1 item group is collapsed.

Once a grouped row is expanded you will notice yellow and white colored cells to the right of each item modification slot. The yellow cells are drop-down boxes which will auto-populate all the cells to their right with what I hope are the appropriate data values, as shown in the image below. Please let me know if I have any of them incorrect. Because the cells to the right of the yellow cell will auto-populate, you do not have to worry about manually entering any values

The white cells, labeled “Stats”, are for items that either have base stats or do not have mods, such as some crafted purples or Columi/Rakata waists and wrists. The first column, Primary, is meant to represent your Primary Class Stat. If you are a Warrior this is Strength, and so on.

Step 2: Select Talents, Buffs, and Stim
Below the set of rows containing input for each Gear item slot you will find another set of drop down boxes specific to Talents, Buffs, and Stims. At this point, the drop-down boxes here only include Talents, Buffs, and Stats which effect what I call base stats; such as Crit, Endurance, and Defense.

For example, Dreadnaught (Warrior, Juggernaut T2 STR+ Talent) is included because Accuracy is currently monitored on the spreadsheet, but Savagry isn't included because it effects Abilities (Impale+Shatter) instead of a base stat. Additional talents will be added in a future release when I get to the point of adding in individual assumed ability damage.

The drop down list can be read as (Class)Talent Namelevel. So, as seen in the image below, (WAR)Dreadnaught1 stands for having one talent point in the Warrior Dreadnaught talent. (WAR)Dreadnaught2 would imply having two points in this talent. Comments with a bit more explanation are located on each applicable column header. In those comments the T1 signifies it as a Tier1 ability, T2 would be Tier 2, and so on.

Step 3: Evaluate your options
Use the drop-down boxes to compare different combinations of item modification pieces in order to hopefully arrive at a point that allows you to have a better idea where things you want to try to obtain. Once a combination is determined you can view the list Mod and Enhancement lists to see where each Columi or Rakata piece item modification piece comes from. Each item listed has a comment that says the class and gear slot the Mod or Enhancement can be found on, but not the specific gear set. (For example on a Mod it may say Rakata:Warrior:Legs, but not if it is War Leaders, Vindicators, Weaponmaster's) You can easily look on Torhead.com for the specific gear set. I will eventually have a lost of the complete source down to the gear set sometime in the future.

Step 4: Take a break and catch up on Doctor Who episodes! Big Grin

The comments located on the character sheets are more informational towards setting up the spreadsheet, while the one on the individual Item Modification pages reference the source of the mod or enhancement.

Update Log:
0.1.2 - Added basic talent support and Rakata, Exotech, and Prototype quality Stims. Redesigned for Grouped version.

Step 2: To be honest, so far, the spreadsheet is currently setup more for my two active characters. Future updates will include a sheet for each class type which will include talent point input. For now, you will just have to either modify the existing formulas or work with what I have up top.

Step 3: Drink more alcohol.

The comments located on the character sheets are more informational towards setting up the spreadsheet, while the one on the individual Item Modification pages reference the source of the mod or enhancement.

Oh this is very nice! Unfortunately it doesn't allow me to select the mods for some reason. Anyways, I will go play around with it more but this is pretty cool!

Thanks a lot for the support! I should have tested the file on different versions of Excel before releasing it. Live and learn though! I believe I fixed the issue with the Drop Down boxes not appearing and will upload the new version as soon as I can. I'm currently at work and they block mediafire; so I'm temporarily sharing the updated file via the above Ubuntuone web link. (Main post will always have the latest version, despite what domain it is hosted at)

The issue was how I had the Data Validation setup. When I referenced cells I included a number of blank cells so users would hopefully be able to just append new items to the existing item list and the drop-down would auto-populate the changes. While the inclusion of blank cells in Data Validation appears to work in Excel 2010, it does not with older versions. I assume you tested with an earlier version than 2010, Dulfy; but let me know if this isn't the case. If the issue is still something with my local Excel I'd like to track it down! Smile I tested the changes I made with VM installs of Excel 2007 and LibraOffice; so it should be OK this time.

I don't see your Ubuntuone link. It seems the forum allows you to upload files.
I may help to say (in your first post) what software your spreadsheet works on.

Sorry for the confusion on my part. When I got home last night I updated the URL from Ubunutone to Mediafire again, but didn't update my subsequent post where I mentioned Ubuntuone; which has since been addressed. When I originally created the thread I looked for an option to simply upload to the forum itself, but didn't see the option. Maybe I just haven't made enough posts yet to unlock it, or I am simply looking in the wrong area. I'm not sure, but I'll look around again. Great suggestion with mentioning test software version. It has been included above. Smile
