I've read a lot of players posting on the main SWTOR site that defensive stats now mitigate better since 1.2...is this true?

I'm full 31 point Shieldtech Powertech, but I run DPS gear in warzones (along w/ a shield generator). I enjoy the defensive playstyle, but haven't really noticed any increased survivabilty while in tanking gear (I used to run full Supercommando gear).

Can anyone confirm that it makes sense to use tanking gear in PvP now?

PvP is so bursty now with non-melee/ranged damage is that tank stats are more worthless than they were in 1.1.5. The other "buff" to tanking stats are Mara/Sents do a lot of melee damage and Snipers do lots of range damage but those are only two ACs out of 8. Only only melee and ranged "white damage" can trigger a tank's shield. So, since the majority of damage in SWTOR isn't "white damage", and since tank PvP gear tends to slap on Absorption and Shield Rating, it just isn't a good idea to use that gear.
