Animations conflicting with Cooldown usage
EDIT 3/20/2012: IGNORE POST DOES NOT APPLY ANYMORE

As I understand it for DPS classes, cooldowns (class abilities, relics and adrenals) should hit all at the same time to maximize DPS. Ideally this should occur during a GCD to avoid downtime from human reflexes.

However, I've noticed that some cooldowns, adrenals specifically, have an animation that prevents any other abilities from being triggered. While my character is stabbing himself in the leg with a needle, I can't trigger other CD's nor can I use abilities despite adrenals being off the GCD.

Since I play a sorcerer, I need to hit my adrenal after recklessness and my relic to avoid clashes.

Has anyone else observed this and do any other abilities trigger an animation based delay?/

I've noticed the animation before, but it doesn't prevent using further abilities, as far as I can tell (then again, by slot layout, my CD sequence (alt Q W R) is Recklessness -> Relic -> Adrenal). They don't immediately animate (my Force Lightning can take up to half its cast time to start displaying), but the cast bar is still running and the damage is still being done to the target.

I'll do some more focus testing on it when I find a moment.

Even Angels must kill from time to time...

RE: Animations conflicting with Cooldown usage
I don't think the Adrenal animation stops you from casting, it just prohibits the animation of the skill you want to use to not be displayed properly. I usually use Power Shot right after the Adrenal and it always starts casting right away, sometimes the animation justs gets fidgety and on rare occasions I have no cast bar displayed with the shot just going off as usual.

RE: Animations conflicting with Cooldown usage
I guess this falls in line with usual complains about the clunkiness of animations and syncing of combat elements.

I know this will sound weird, but even though it does seem like you can't cast, you actually are casting, the problem is in the displaying of it all, but "behind the scenes" most things seem to work as intended.

Keep in mind this feeling you get is also HEAVILY affected by your computer. I regularly play swtor in 2 computers and the "bad one" does a lot of glitchy things like this.

I "know" things still work as intended though, because one thing that happens with Electro Dart in my "bad" computer is that when I use it during a tight combat moment (many players/npc on screen, back to back casting etc), mobs are getting stunned .1 or .2 seconds before the PC is finished displaying the animation, while the dart is still flying.

Devs have also acknowledged that low end computers may go into fps issues at points and in certain situations this may keep players from activating an ability. There a was a fix for this particulat issue a few patches ago that solved many of my problems in old computer, but it still happens sometimes.

RE: Animations conflicting with Cooldown usage
Just tested this. Doesn't seem to apply anymore or I missed it the first time.
