Arenas anytime soon?
I remember reading a post about potential ranked warzones, but does that mean like WoW style 2v2/3v3/4v4 type arenas, or will there be a different twist on it? At least for me that is what really made WoW pvp so enjoyable. I'm really hoping they have something similiar in this game soon. I can see a lot of people getting burnt out on the current wz grind and even potentially leaving the game if all they offer is the same 3 warzones for some time to come. Any confirmed info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I believe Bioware stated that there will be at least a new Warzone come March.

RE: Arenas anytime soon?
Hopefully its a revamp of Ilum and a semi cap on the number of players so its less of a zergfest.

I was attempting to do the daily there, since it recently got fixed, because I felt I should if I wanted to be competitive in pvp. That only lasted a few days, I'd rather get chain splattered in pvp than suffer through that.

RE: Arenas anytime soon?
The new warzone might be analogous to the 40vs40 one they had in WoW, Alterac Valley I think it was called. WoW realized that world pvp would never work because of imbalance of horde vs alliance and thats why they created alterac valley. Hopefully TOR will realize that and nix the whole Ilum thing or at least do what you mentioned and cap it.

Wow actually created Alterac Valley an expansion before they brought WinterGrasp into the fold resurrecting the old pvp zones of Vanilla.

That's neither here nor there..I'd also like to see arenas.

doubtful, since developers from blizzard have stated arenas were the worst mistake they made in wow. At most you will see a ladder system, and ranked matches ala HON or LOL probably. where players can que into a match as a solo, duo, or a partial or full team.

Yeah I can see how arena could have ruined the aspects of the game. Rather than moving forward the developers spend an obscene amount of time tweaking and balancing the classes so that its fair in the arena's.

When players are restricted into specific subsets of skills via classes there's bound to be an imbalance, a fact which gets magnified when you place them in head to head competition. Paper, Rock, Scissors, Lightsaber, despite the best attempts to balance devs will never strike the proper balance and there will always be that FOTM.

sorry about the offtopic rant...

I believe that Arenas had a pro and a con to them. (As a former WoW Arena player)

You could see it as Blizzard (or in this case, BioWare) being constantly forced to balance classes in an effort to keep things in line, however, one can also come to the conclusion that constant tweaking classes itself causes balance issues that will never be fixed.

i see this on the main forums too, but having been a wow player and avid arena player, i've never heard of wow devs say arena was the worst mistake they've ever made. can you possibly link me where you actually saw this. although i do agree arena for swtor may not be a great idea for a better pvp system.

RE: Arenas anytime soon?
Blizz calling it a big mistake has to be put in perspective, arenas and warzone pvp in general didn't come into play until 1-1.5 years or so after wow opened so there was really no forethought of having to balance classes when they built the game.

I think balancing pvp and pve is very possible if it is taken into consideration when first developing a game which Bioware has probly though of. Arenas where a nightmare for the development aspect but Arena tournaments was a great marketing tool for Blizz, with purses of up 50k it attracted a lot of hype and attention to WoW.

The reason why people whined and complained so much about arenas in WoW was because of how much they loved them and how passionate they were about them. Everyone wanted arenas to work and be balanced, unfortunately WoW never really acheived that. But I do think that Bioware can learn from the mistakes of Blizz and implement an arena system that can be somewhat balanced and give players another option of in gameplay style without having it negatively impace pve and wz/opne world based pvp.

I'm all for arenas in swtor not offering any better gear or rewards than wz/open world pvp rewards. Instead just give titles or cool in game speeders, stuff like that so people can still have something to stroke their ego with. I personally love the competitive high action environment of arenas as an option to add variety to the game.
