RE: DPS Excel calculator for Sorcerer / Sage
That is good example, but shows how they are used to interpret result, not how they can be used to influence future simulation.
In other words, you could not use your DPE numbers from previous run to decide up front which spell (travel time or instant) would be better to put in action list in new scenario. You had to put first one, then other (assuming the dont have CD, you cant have both as filler), then look which one has better result, and decide to keep that one. And as I said, your DPE is useful in this case to analyze result - but much more useful is total damage/DPS from those runs. In your example, I would decide on which spell to use after those two simulations based on total DPS, not on particual spell DPE - since many other issues , like interspell effects, can influence total DPS, And again, when needed to use that DPE to help you decide something up front, then it is not good number - because with any new run you may get different result, based on lengths of breaks, if= conditions to not cast near breaks etc. Of course, you can always say that you can simulate all scenarios and use Sim results (total DPS, and/or single DPEs) to decide which is best. But my point was that there are many possible scenarios, and you want to limit your simulations to those that LOOKS promising. And for any such use, your 'actual' DPE is not good , compared to my 'full' DPE. In your example, you would also use my 'full' DPE to decide what spells are candidates for filler (those 1000 and 950), and then for those that are close you may run simulations and decide based on actual DPS which is better in reality. But I bet if on some previous similarly exotic run travel time spell had half DPE of insta spell, you would still in future case with different boss break event still test both 1000 and 950 DPE spell to see which is better. In other words, you would not base decision on which spells to include in future test setups based on previous sim 'partial' DPE results, but again based on 'full' DPE. That is maybe too many words to say: - 'partial' DPE is good to interpret results of already run simulation, BUT total DPS is much better (meaning 'partial' DPE would mostly be unused here, except to explain reason for total 'DPS', and then again only way to explain would be if you compare to 'full' DPE) - 'partial' DPE is not useful on its own to help you decide on future sim setups But I concur that at least this is some use of 'partial' DPE : to interpret results and explain why total DPS is worse when better 'full' DPE spell is used. But for such comparison you would still need 'full' DPE, not to mention that to decide which spells to run in sims and compare you would use 'full' DPE. Or put another way: partial DPE is useful only when it can be compared to full DPE. For other cases, values like total DPS are more useful. Which brings me back to question: Is it possible to have both of those values shown in sim Results? ;p |
