Looking for pics of different gear sets (esp custom/orange)
Anyone know of a site that has a gear gallery?
Also, does anyone have any thoughts of the viability of using the custom gear? As long as you keep it modded it should be fine while leveling. But will it be viable in endgame? |

RE: Looking for pics of different gear sets (esp custom/orange)
The devs stated about a month before the end of beta that the idea was for orange gear to remain viable at end-game, though it might take a bit more work. Purple gear has mods in it, but only Enhancement and Mod slots. The armoring, hilt, and barrel slots are effectively locked into raid drops (don't even show up as a mod, just intrinsic stats). They've also said, however, that they want to drop armoring, hilt, and barrel items from bosses, allowing orange mod gear a place in end-game. This would require you to get two drops per orange item, a regular item drop for the Mod/Enhancement slots and an armoring/barrel/hilt for the primary slot, to keep it relevant.
That said, it wouldn't necessarily require all of that at once. For all of the mod slots I've seen, primary stats are split between Armoring and Mod, and secondary stats are split between Mod and Enhancement. If you get a purple item drop and strip the Mod and Enh out into your orange item, you've upgraded a fair chunk of it. The major importance of the primary slot mod will be on your weapon, as that's what controls the force/tech power and weapon damage. The Armoring mod drops, while important for keeping your stats maximized, will only have abnormal importance for tanks (where armor matters). For everyone else, Armoring mods are just another stat mod, and thus can be ignored until the mods actually drop. It's a pretty good system, to be honest. Even Angels must kill from time to time...

RE: Looking for pics of different gear sets (esp custom/orange)
Question. Lightsabers have:
hilt power crystal color crystal enhancement mod In raid gear, only the hilt is set in stone and providing the bonus stats? The rest is fully customizable? Also, do lightsabers have a mod slot and thus one more customization than other items, or are they just a special snowflake and skip the mod slot? While you're at it, how expensive does it get to strip out customizations at high level? It's dirt at low level. Thanks! |

RE: Looking for pics of different gear sets (esp custom/orange)
Yes, their hilt is set in stone, though the devs have also said that hilts (and armoring and barrels) will drop in raids as well. Also, yes, they have mod slots. That said, though they have the color crystal slot for additional stats, all weapons have that slots, so it's still balanced. Also, color crystals really don't have a huge variance in available stats (so far, I've only see power, crit, and endurance, though I think there are a few more).
At level 50 using the 108-120 rating blue mods I got finishing Corellia, it's about 3k per mod to remove. I dropped around 80k stripping mods out of my old gear and putting it in the new gear I'm using for my level 50 look. Even Angels must kill from time to time...

RE: Looking for pics of different gear sets (esp custom/orange)
Shame on me for not knowing that blasters used color crystals. I was confused about power crystals because I thought that was a slot; it's a type of artifice material. Thanks for clearing that up. I'm still confused about augments, however. Do they only show up on crafted items? Can you get them on oranges?
1. hilt / barrel / armoring 2. color crystal (weapon only) 3. enhancement 4. mod 5. augment 1. Made by the people who make the weapons themselves, this is really the most important part of any item. It determines armor and damage rating, and carries some stats too. In raid gear, this is the part that is set in stone. Raid versions of these also drop, which allow you to equip them in orange gear to give it raid gear stats. 2. Made by artificers. Minor stat boost, several cosmetic options. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and white all exist for endurance, crit, and power. Several other options seem to exist, but aren't made by artificers... possibly from various high-end vendors. 3. Made by artificers. Package of three stat boosts. Lots of options. 4. Made with Cybertech. Smaller package of three stat boosts. 5. Found by slicing, maybe made by cybertech or something? Small single stat boost, found on critically crafted items. |

Still unsure if Orange items can be crit crafted. Side note: for color crystals, it seems only Red, Blue, and Green can be made by artificers. The other colors appear to not be craftable. RE: Looking for pics of different gear sets (esp custom/orange)
Given operation-dropped hilts, an orange crit-crafted item would have an advantage over operation drops, right? So really, mods *edit* I mean augments */edit* aren't used in any gear that contends for best-in-slot unless Bio made a very foolish design error.
I can make yellow color crystals as well, though I haven't found any yellow gems so far. I've been under the impression that more color options open up at higher levels. |

So really, mods aren't used in any gear that contends for best-in-slot unless Bio made a very foolish design error. What? Mods as in the slot type are in both purple and orange gear, which are the two BIS contenders. At the moment, we're not sure if orange items even can be crit crafted (I've never seen one, and there's a thread on the official forums asking for any screenshots of them, no bites yet). If orange items can't be crit crafted, then purples and orange will be equal, though in order to get an orange on level you'll need to get the armoring/hilt/barrel drops and a purple item to strip the mod and enhancement (and color crystal, if weapon) out of. Quote:I can make yellow color crystals as well, though I haven't found any yellow gems so far. I've been under the impression that more color options open up at higher levels. Ya, yellows are sorta weird. No archaeology nodes for them, though you get recipes for them. My friend has did an exhaustive search of the trainer, and has been keeping a regular eye on the GTN, and has yet to find a single recipe other than red, green, blue, yellow, and has yet to find a yellow base crystal. RE: Looking for pics of different gear sets (esp custom/orange)
Whoops! I meant augment slots. Not mod slots! *edits post* Oh, and by reading the rest of your post, I can infer that BiS contenders do not use augments indeed.
Big disappointment about color crystals there. Sounds like something they'll probably patch in, though, especially since yellow already "exists". |

This could be easily solved by having mods etc. only count as a fraction of the normal gear point drop instead of taking a full spot in the loot table. For example if a boss normally drops 4 pieces of gear the boss could have a chance to instead drop 3 pieces of gear and 3 mods/hilts/armoring. "Use the force Harry" - Gandalf |
