The summoning stone isn't BoP either; it's a consumable. Cyber also makes mods. Overall it's a very solid profession.

The critical craft feature of Synthweaving on BoP stuff seems pretty valuable to me. Since it's just wrist and belts, doesn't that come out to +68 stats?

When you craft a moddable equipment with a crit, does it also get an Augment slot ?

Steve,

Is it possible to RE a Rakata Chest to learn to craft and possibly critical craft a Rakata Chest afterwards or can we only upgrade the quality of an item we make IF we first learned it from a trainer or a schematic?

If we only learn an item through a trainer or schematic than I guess my answer is no.

Sad

No, you cannot learn to craft Ops gear. If you RE a Rakata item (if that's even allowed, which it may not be), you have a chance to learn an upgrade for a similar item, not a recipe for the item REd.

RE: Profession Dilemma - Looking for input
So even after I've concluded that the main reason to be a Synthweaver is to critically craft gear so I can get augment slots, I have one remaining question.

What is my motivation to craft Exotech gear?

If I wanted to, I could just craft the lowest level chest/helm/legs/gloves/boots over and over until I crit on each one which gives me an augment slot, and then put the highest level Mod/Armor/Enhancement/Aug in them which brings them up to par with the highest level crafted gear (Exotech).

The only difference would be the look of the gear.

Is that my main motivation to max out synth and make Exotech? For its look? So I can make BoP Rakata Bracer and Waistcord?

We've actually yet to confirm that orange gear can even be crit crafted.

I have found that you can only RE items that you can craft. Maybe you can RE items other crafters with the same profession have made.

I have seen crafted purple level gear with an Augument slots. That is good news for Slicers, since that may be a good source of income for those that stick with slicing.

Oh so what you're saying is that the only gear with Slots in them that has potential to be critted is the Purple gear.

Sure I could make the lowest level Orange gear and make it "equal" to the purple gear, but I can't crit on it and can't get the extra slot.

It all makes sense now. Big Grin

Off-topic:

My playtime has been extremely limited with a lot of RL things going on. I just saw on Tatooine that there is a full Sand People orange set.

AWESOME. lol

RE: Profession Dilemma - Looking for input
Right now I am a 400 Cybertech, 380 Scavenger and 100 Underworld trading.

I think my current plan is to make my ship upgrades, my mount, my grenades, and go Biochem for the OP Stims and Medpack. My only thought is that so many people are talking about doing something like this that they are going to have to nerf Biochem if everyone switches.

Anyone else think of doing this?
