But unfortunately I am yet to find what you are referring to. There is one in the compendium but that is a crafted list and as I am aware the crafting gear is no where near as good as what can be gotten through PVP and Hard Modes.

If you could post a link or point me in the direction of the gear listing for the stats you mention above that would be awesome.

Cheers,
Nev

I was refering to the crafted list. It should be a starting point that is easily achievable. The idea was to use my table, so somebody can start with the crafted setup and decide which stats are more interesting concerning replacements.

RE: Tradeoff with Defense Rating / Shield Rating / Absorption Rating
So I'm starting to approach max gear (I only need Rakata Chest and MH (when fixed))...

Jedi Guardian:

20500-21000 HP
47.5% DR
24% Def
36% Shield
36% Abs

I'm wondering if I have the correct setup and if my understanding of the "cap" is correct - 30% is the defense cap so I'm basically max defense right now because of riposte giving +6%?

I've got room to go up to 50% on shield/abs?

There is no cap on % defense as such. The "cap" is on the amount of defense you get from rating, and that is 30%, not counting what you get from talents, retalitation, and the like.

Whether you want to add more defense or something else is a complicated question which the spreadsheets and discussion here is trying to answer.

Simple question: do we know the numbers yet where we need to be to start doing Heroic FPs and/or normal Operations?

This is pretty dependent on your group and most especially healer. I successfully did boarding party as a fresh 50 (before they cut the last bosses damage in half) with few if any epic mods/armourings/enhancements/augments and did fine, although I had a guild healer in 2/3rds columi healing me. With a good group and excellent communication there is no reason at all as a fresh 50 you can't tank HM FPs or normal Ops.

That said, if you pug alot, and you find yourself lacking, getting the armourings and mods from the dailys wouldn't hurt. Let your healer know you feel undergeared and let your group know that you want lots of CC and you should be fine. Most FPs only have a few pulls that are really really tough, even with CC.

These numbers include skills/talents and stance bonuses, right?

For example, my character screen has me at 23% defense chance, but that includes the 11% base+skill.

If not, then it means I need to get 850 more def Undecided

Yes, they include the base + skills. For you to get 30% defense purely from defense rating would be impossible, as even 10,000 defense rating is just 29.98%. You should aim for ~24ish percent and then fill out shield rating/absorb

RE: Tradeoff with Defense Rating / Shield Rating / Absorption Rating
I was having this debate with another Tank on my server whos position was that +def rules all, I have an observation that I made to him that is very unscientific but holds water in my opionion.

I started 50 bought all the purples I could and sat at about 30 def 25 shield and 29 absorb. ...Now after a month of 50 and more ops/hm fps that i can remember .. mostly rakata gear. 2 pieces of columi and the tank wep right before Rakata. I have 25.68 def 33 shield chance and 36 shield absorb. Also i went from 16,500 hp to 21,370 hp buffed.

The observation i made is simple. If the devs thought thatp +def was the answer and the most important stat .. wouldnt we all be growing in +def from natural gear progression?

It seems to me based on gear changes that the real stat imprtance whould be...

Stam->Shield Chance->Absorb->def->armor-strength
However i see it more lilke Stam-shield-absorb-strength-def-armor
And idealy 22,000hp 40shield-40absorb-23def

Just my thoughts based on gear progression.

Strenght for dps and more threat via dps. Mitigation dont mean shit if your dpsers are constantly worried about aggro. My motto is open up kill fast and hard. Ive got 2 taunts .. pop back to back and aggro is my job to keep.. i also pop a lot of crit adrenals and relics if its a boss i dont have to live through enrages.

Unfortunately that's not even close to true. A good example is gear for healing Operatives. Their gear is full of Alacrity which is only useful for very short bursts of healing and forces them to afterwards heal very litte while regening energy but for sustained healing it is almost as useful as zero stats. With Power/Crit/Surge you have higher burst and sustained healing (although Crit/Surge habe a luck factor involved).
