It works well enough. It's what I've run since the patch, and in Rakata gear I was either 2-5% above or 2-5% below our fully Campaign geared Marauder in a number of HM EC fights. That's relative though, I don't have a raw number on hand, but the bosses never hit enrage.

------------------

Since I can't seem to start a new thread, I'd like to know if anyone here has done the math on whether the 4pc 8% Rail Shot Damage bonus is better or worse than the 4pc 15% Rail Shot Crit Chance bonus for PvE DPS in Pyro. With 1.3 we'll be able to add augments to any gear, which means you can buy four armor pieces of Black Hole gear and put them in the Rakata or Battlemaster shells to get those set bonuses, and still augment the gear. Hence I have to decide between the two.

I tested it myself but am looking for other opinions. My (probably rigorously poor and mathematically daft) tests went as follows:

1) Beat on the operations dummy for a bit. Write down the numbers of each Rail Shot, separating crits from non-crits. Then sum and average the crits and non-crits over a sufficiently large sample size to get an average RS. (My numbers were ~4265 Crit RS on average, ~2093 Non-Crit RS on average)
2) Assume 100% accuracy for the sake of simplicity. My stats for this particular test were: Aim - 1964, Power: 591, Accuracy - 366, Surge - 171 (Crit is given static values).
3) Take a base crit percentage (IA buff inclusive) before either bonus would be applied and use that for the calculations over 100 Rail Shots(for ease of numbers, obviously won't hit 100 in one fight).

The numbers I got using that method were as follows:

With 30% buffed crit percentage...

Using 8% RS Damage: 100 Shots (30 Crit + 70 Non-Crit) * 1.08 = ((30*4265)+(70*2093)) * 1.08 = (127950 + 146510) * 1.08 = 274460 * 1.08 = 296416 Total Damage

Using 15% RS Crit: 100 Shots (45 Crit + 55 Non-Crit) = ((45*4265) + (55*2093)) = 191925 + 115115 = 307040 Total Damage

15% RS Crit > 8% RS Damage, by 3.5% total damage.

With 35% buffed crit percentage...

Using 8% RS Damage: 100 Shots (35 Crit + 65 Non-Crit) * 1.08 = ((35*4265)+(65*2093)) * 1.08 = (149275 + 136045) * 1.08 = 285320 * 1.08 = 308145 Total Damage

Using 15% RS Crit: 100 Shots (50 Crit + 50 Non-Crit) = ((50*4265) + (50*2093)) = 213250 + 104650 = 317900 Total Damage

15% RS Crit > 8% RS Damage, by 3.1% total damage.

With 60% buffed crit percentage (using explosive fuel) over 45s...

Using 8% RS Damage: 12 Shots (7 Crit + 5 Non-Crit) * 1.08 = ((7*4265)+(5*2093)) * 1.08 = (29855 + 10465) * 1.08 = 40320 * 1.08 = 43525 Total Damage

Using 15% RS Crit: 12 Shots (9 Crit + 3 Non-Crit) = ((9*4265) + (3*2093)) = 38385 + 6229 = 44664 Total Damage

15% RS Crit > 8% RS Damage, by 2.6% total damage.

Those numbers, if they're correct, suggest the PvP Eliminator set bonus gives a ~3% damage gain on Rail Shot over the PvE Combat Tech. However, this factors out the 2pc bonus to Explosive Fuel, which may or may not allow one extra usage per average boss fight (haven't tested against enrage timers). It's also a % difference in Rail Shot, not in net damage which also includes a large portion of Flame Burst, Combustible Gas Cylinder, and other things, so the net difference would be smaller. It's also only one sample with a given Power/Surge rating, a lower Power and higher Surge might change the results(probably widen the gap a little).

So yeah if anyone else could weigh in it'd be appreciated. I don't have to worry about Campaign armoring since tank is my main spec, and the cost of 4pc BM gear is negligible to me, so I'd just like to know which is better overall for PvE Pyrotech DPS even if just by a small margin.
