It shouldn't unless my math is off.

Lets say a normal RS gives you 2000 damage and a crit gives you 4000 damage. You also have a 30% chance to crit.

With PVP gear you get the bonus set of 15% to crit + the base of 30% which comes out to be 45%

Now lets say you fired off 10 Rail Shots.

2000 x 10 = 20,000 x .55 (chance for a normal hit) = 11,000
4000 x 10 = 40,000 x .45 (chance for a crit) = 18,000

11,000 + 18,000 = 29,000 on average

For PVE gear I'm going to increase the damage by 10% instead of 8% to make the numbers cleaner.

2200 x 10 = 22,000 x .70 (chance for a normal hit) = 15,400
4400 x 10 = 44,000 x .30 (chance for a crit) = 13,200

15,400 + 13,200 = 28,600 on average and this is with a 10% increase to rail shot.

To make things easy I only doubled the damage for a crit. I'm currently at 75% surge and I'm getting about 5% more after doubling the normal hit. This would also make the difference even bigger favoring the PVP gear.

RE: Powertech/Vanguard DPS Compendium
30 % crit, 75% surge, 2000 dmgt as standard
pvp:
2000 x 10 = 20,000 x .55 = 11,000
3750 x 10 = 37,500 x .45 = 16875
= 27875
pve:
2200 x 10 = 22000 x 0.7 = 15400
4125 x 10 = 41250 x 0.3 = 12375
= 27775

Numbers are near the same, but this is only the bonus of the sets without the stats you get more with pve. There is a difference round about 110 aim you would miss with pvp gear if you only wear 4 pc for the set and the rest pve. Which this in mind the stated 2% (10%-8%) are not near enough to weight out the 110 aim.

I just went to Ilum for over an hour just killing mobs. If I switch to PVP set my tool tip say HIB(RS) range is from 1654-1860. For the hour the lowest HIB I got was 3630. The highest was 4070. Mostly 3850.

With the PVE set. HIB(RS) the range is 1833 - 2054. The lowest hit I got was 4030. The highest was 4455. Mostly get hits at 4150+.

This is only with self buffs and tano vik as my companion. .

Surge rating shows 75.01. If the average crits were what you were listing I would never gotten those high crits.

RE: Powertech/Vanguard DPS Compendium
I just found Kray's excel sheet. Very good work and looks like a lot of time spent getting the rotation and numbers down. Wish I had read through the whole thread earlier instead of just the first couple of pages.

It shows I'm right about the PVP 15% crit being better than both bonuses from the PVE gear set combined.

Though I am wrong about it being able to make up the difference from the aim lost.

If in 1.2 you can use the armoring to put the bonus on PVE gear without losing aim it would definitely be the best way to go for Pyro.

Though after using Kray's 1.2 patch option I think I'll probably switch to the AP build once the patch goes live.

RE: Powertech/Vanguard DPS Compendium
To use the pvp-set boni with normal orange would be very nice for Pyro. The difference between those specs after 1.2 is already discussed at page 29ff.. Pyro will still be better.

Edit: Nevertheless we forgot the 2pc boni of the pve gear, -15 sec cd on explosive fuel. To get a clear decission between those sets we hace to recalculate with this boni in mind. I dont know if the math can be done with krays sheet (no ms excel =( ).

You can calculate it with the 2 piece bonus as well and I usually get a 10 dps increase with the pvp bonus over both the pve bonus. Hardly a difference but still a very slight upgrade.

Problem with the 2 pc PVE bonus is you need over 7 mins to be 100% sure you get an extra explosive fuel. Other wise it depends on the timing of the fight to get 25% extra crit for just 15 seconds once. Again depending on how long the fight takes there is a good chance you won't get that extra explosive fuel if under 7 mins. I believe just about all the enrage timers are under 7 mins. The only one I can think of that may be longer is SOA but, even then if it refreshes while you're platforming it's not going to do anything.

RE: Powertech/Vanguard DPS Compendium
We are rarely does have a fight over 7 min in general. With this mind, the option to extract the setboni in 1.2 and the chance to use in all slots orange gear we can also get the difference of 110 aim eliminated. thus the difference between ap and pyro will be like now / pre 1.2 ^^

RE: Powertech/Vanguard DPS Compendium
Since the 4-set PvP is better than 4-set PvE, and the 2-set PvE doesn't really help much over 5 minutes, there will be two ways to get the PvP set bonus. One is you can get 4 piece of Cent/Champ/BM gear and replace all the mods but you lose augments (the armor shell is supposed to have the set bonuses). The second is get 4 piece War Hero and put those armoring mods in whatever gear and perhaps that gear has augments to offset the expertise in the armoring.

I wonder if you could keep the set bonus from the PvP armor shell and get the PvE set bonus from the Black Hole/Campaign gear armoring.

RE: Powertech/Vanguard DPS Compendium
How does powertech DPS fair against merc DPS in 1.2? I know that the gap between, for instance, juggernauts and marauders was diminished significantly. How about for the two BH ACs?
