While I don't use any math or stat equivalencies to use PvE gear, I just use logic. 500 expertise is where you start to have DR so switch and swap to your hearts content to maintain that (usually 3-4 PvE pieces) and make sure the PvE piece you are using has the best stats available for that slot (ideally something with a hidden armoring of 61 cunning)

I notice my stats are better when I switch columi out for centurion/champion and rakata for champion (still not a battle master yet...) However, Rakata for Centurion doesn't help.
