I am 50, that is my problem. I am running more or less carefree through Eternity Vault energy-wise. The main problem I have right now is not keeping energy up. The main problem is actually hitting backstab, since the combat system doesn't register me being behind the mob a lot of the times.

Ideally, I start with acid blade + hidden strike, backstab, shiv, stim, dart etc. After that, I try to keep shiv and backstab (with acid blade) on CD while weaving lacerate into it. Unless I am at full energy. I admit I have points hitting lacerate until TA is used up and then get it up by one with TA and so forth, but only sometimes do I drop below 50. It's a little frustrating trying to find out what's going on when half the time backstab lights up yet the combat system says I'm not behind the mob.
