It's very possible it hits at 0, 1.5, and 3, rather than 1, 2, and 3. We know it only hits 3 times. Also, logic != balance or ease of game design.

Even Angels must kill from time to time...

You can check the old XML files to see what the tick intervals are for DoTs and what number of ticks are. Although are some exceptions, for example, Ravage/Master Strike ticks 3 times, over the course of 3 seconds, however looking at the XML shows us that the first two hits happen simultaneously at 0.20s and the next one at 2.1s.

4 times seems OP, thats 24 force every time you cast it. Plus you regain 24 force passive (8x3).
Ability costing 27 force (ish with talent) thats 17 force every time you use it. (and what I had balanced my build aroundTongue )

3 times seems more balanced (11 force every time you use it) but also nerfs the force gained by when using the spell by 55% ish. FMLTongue

According to the XML, FL ticks 1 per second. It ticks 3 times, so it is does damage 1, 2 and 3 seconds after beginning to channel. This tick rate is halved with a LB proc and ending channel before a tick will cause that damage to not be applied.

Affliction ticks once every 3 seconds and ticks 5 times untalented. It can only be stacked once and each talent point to its duration adds a single ticks.

Mind crush does some damage on hit, then ticks once per second for 6 seconds untalented.

By saying it can only be stacked once, does that mean I can put a new affliction up when its say.. 2 sek left of duration and still get the tick (extend the new one or something) ?

Aaaaand testing trumps logic. Just tested it. I was wrong, you were right. Force Lightning hits 4 times, not 3, all for equal amounts. I was testing this on a level 5 SI. Tooltip value was 167 damage over 3 seconds. Ticked 4 times, at 0, 1, 2, and 3 seconds, for 38 damage apiece (for 152 damage total, showing some mitigation).

Edit: If you want to properly retest this, make sure you test it against a a weak or standard enemy (so it gets rooted), and for best results, a melee-only mob, so you don't encounter cast pushback (which seems to work precisely like WoW, you lose a ~0.5 seconds off the channel, though a single pushback still allowed the 4th tick to go off in the test I noticed it).

I'm rather floored that they coded it like that. That also makes me strongly suspect that they may have coded DoTs in the same manner as Rift (first tick on application) as well. I must test this.

nice! I builded my rotation around the force regain it would get with 4 stacks. Phew!


-Do we know anything about its gain from SWTOR spellpower (Force power?)? Hope it dosnt lose that much just because it adds a slow
