RE: SWTOR formula list
Quote:Because you have a limited budget of stat points to allocatethere, there's is a point where other stats (aka power) become more viable (aka only choice), thanks to the dimishing returns on crit and surge. There are points where the relevant stats are equal in value, but if you go past that, you've stack too much of an unideal stat. Instead, maximizing your gear's output occurs when all paired stats are equal in value. For example, Surge and Alacrity for a Sorc. At 0 in each, Surge is significantly more potent than Alacrity and should be preferentially stacked. However, once you get to somewhere around 200-250 Surge, Surge has fallen (and Alacrity risen) in value sufficiently that Alacrity and Surge are equal in weight. At this point, instead of favoring Alacrity exclusively (which would quickly make Surge the preferred stat again), you should increase both as necessary to maintain their weights as equal. This occurs, on average, if you increase Surge to 300 from the 200-250 level you're at now, while simultaneously increasing Alacrity to 300 from 0 (effectively 1 Surge for every 3-6 Alacrity). This same phenomenon occurs between Crit and Power, because adding Power increases the damage benefit of further Crit and thus the value of it. In the gear that produces ~300 of Alacrity and Surge, the balance point is at around 600 Power to 300 Crit, though I've not investigated the behavior of this pair at lower stat levels yet. One thing to be careful of is that the stat weights spit out by simulators such as Simulationcraft are heavily based on the gear that was used for that simulation. Until recently, the gear used by SimC for Sorcs was straight-from-the-vendor Rakata, which was excessively high in Crit and Alacrity and quite low in Power and Surge. This resulted in very very low weight values for Crit and Alacrity compared to Power and Surge, fostering the opinions that Power was always better than Crit and that Alacrity was "worthless". Neither of these assumptions was true, and were the result of the gross imbalance in stats (compared to the ideal) present on Rakata Sorc gear. Even Angels must kill from time to time...
