My gut tells me that Anubis is probably right - or is that the Force talking in my head?
Game mechanics are in place that dictate killing one of your companions means that companion is dead for ever. So it isn't too big a leap to ensure any quest NPC killed by a group would be dead forever to each member of that group. That should only take the same sort of character database flag as losing your companion does -- even if the coding to reach that flag is a bit different. Ah, that's a different question. I haven't seen any information regarding this issue. My personal interpretation is that people who you decide to spare or kill cannot come back in a group quest, since it will cause continuation issues as you point out. They might only appear in your personal character's story, unrelated to anyone else.
Following the logic of a persistent world, if you choose to spare Mr. X, but one of your party members who decided to kill him wins the roll, you will never see Mr. X again, as this will contradict the storyline. You still gain the benefit from willing to spare his life, but he remains dead for you and your group. We need confirmation on this, as this is my personal belief and not verified information. |

I saw that video but it didn't convince my that the guy won't pop up alive again in a next chapter if you join up with someone els who didn't kill him. One way or the other one of the two scenario's has to play out and if the current party members made different choices in the past i wonder what happens.

If you had watched the Tatooine walkthrough, you wouldn't have asked this question. Sith Inquisitor groups up with an Imperial Agent. The Inquisitor chooses to kill a Sith, the Imperial decides to spare him. SI wins the roll, kills the Sith, gains Dark Side points. IA loses the roll, watches the SI kill the Sith, gains Light Side points for his choice to spare him.

That is both awesome and a bit stressful...which makes CHOICES such an integral part of the game. Assuming they pull it off, this could be one of the biggest changes to MMOs in quite some time.

I read in the last developer post that the titles Darth and Lord will be based on completing story lines. They mentioned that it will most likely be based on choices so I am assuming only certain key story line decisions will lead to the titles.

This should help us make choices:
http://darthhater.com/2010/12/.....ned/page/2 "Every dialog choice that awarded alignment points flashed your screen either blue for Light side, and red for Dark side. Most of these occurred in an obvious choice between only two options, however occasionally we received points simply by picking one of the three normal dialogue options." Those are good questions. My understanding is that along with the 'populace-at-large' reactions, our NPC-pets will also react differently to us depending on our choices.
It may end up being a razor's edge that us DS-side heavy characters will be walking. I think I read somewhere that if you kill your NPC-pets, they are dead forever for that character. I really don't want to build-up so much hate/fear in them that I'm confronted with that choice. So, on this point I think I'll have to trust the DEVs that they will always give you a way-out so you don't have to kill your NPC-pets - even if you are the most evil motheh on the Dark Side. One of the things Bloodhawk said in the flashpoint grouping discussion was wanting to go deep into DS points for his first Sith Warrior. I'm looking to do the same, and hopefully we can create some forum threads about these decisions when game goes live, but it has me wondering how these DS points will effect us. There are titles, which very likely will be tied to DS/LS points. They also said it has to do with how people will interact with you in the game. Has anyone seen any specifics on how the world treats you differently?
It would be a good question for the devs (if we get the chance to do an interview) to find out if our choices are stored in a database somewhere or if it simply records the DS/LS points. In a flashpoint with a "kill the captain" scenario, it changes what happens in the flashpoint but does that decision effect you at any time later in the game? They sort of hinted that it would but I have seen no evidence. |
