RE: Shield Tech/Shield Specialist Tanking Discussion

To start with, as a tank, you should really be prioritizing Endurance over Aim on your gear. More HP is always better. Naturally you'll still be getting plenty of Aim from your gear, but as we're not meant to be damage dealers it's not overly important how much of it you get. As for secondary stats, take a look at this thread: http://sithwarrior.com/forums/Thread-Tan...ine?page=4 Using the spreadsheet there, you can easily calculate what stats will most dramatically affect your mitigation. In general, it's good to have a balance of defense, shield rating, and absorption, as diminishing returns dictate that stacking a single stat does little good. Out of all of our secondary stats, I find it toughest to get Defense Rating on my gear, so be on the lookout for pieces and mods with DR when you can. In the end, I'd probably go: Defense Rating > Shield Rating > Absorption Rating Solely because on the high-end PvE Powertech armor I've seen, we get plenty of Absorption, lots of Accuracy, some Shield Rating, and very little Defense Rating. Added to the fact that we have a lower base DR than Juggernauts or Assassins from our tanking tree, and Defense Rating is usually what will provide the biggest upgrade to your mitigation based on the spreadsheet. |

http://elitistjerks.com/f72/t125290-bloo...nking_4_x/ There are threads on DPS specs like the above one but none on tanking...? Especially all the different opinions on which stats are the best for tanking is not verry helpfull.. lol Cheers. |

Even the compendiums on this site, as great as they are, rely on a lot of assumptions that we're still working on proving. Nobody has stepped up yet to summarize all of this discussion into a fancy Shield Tech Compendium. As for stats, the post just above yours links directly to a spreadsheet you can use to optimize your own stats. Helpful enough? It's radius is too small and it's heat cost is too high for how little damage it does. I thought I'd be fine on AoE threat, but these gigantic trash mobs (I'm looking at you, flame-dinosaur things in front of Gharj) refuse to be grouped up properly, so they cluster all around me and make Flamethrower hit 1-3 targets at most. Groups are also spaced out enough in EV that Death From Above isn't hitting as many as I'd like. I find the range ok but i do seem to not hit mobs if i use it while i'm moving i don't know if anyone else thinks the same, its most likely an error on my part or a bit of lag. |

RE: Shield Tech/Shield Specialist Tanking Discussion
I created another Powertech/Vanguard spreadsheet that helps with tanking and threat stats. Is a constant WIP.
You can take a look at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?...jRPa1kxMEE The official forums thread is here. All feedback is welcome. MorningMusume's Powertech/Vanguard Spreadsheet |

RE: Shield Tech/Shield Specialist Tanking Discussion
I know the conventional wisdom is to prioritize health over damage for tanks; however, I find that my survivability is just fine and my threat and kill speed are better if I focus on Aim rather than End.
As long as you have enough health to survive the encounter, more health provides no additional benefit. This is not true of damage; more damage is always useful. If you're not dying often, prioritize Aim over End until/unless you find yourself struggling. |

RE: Shield Tech/Shield Specialist Tanking Discussion
For years on WoW I was a firm believer in avoidance over health stacking and I tanked literally every tank in WoW at high level content. So far my experience on ToR agrees with Avoidance > hp where you can get it.
So far in regards to threat/aim etc. single target I've no issues holding a boss but when it comes to AoE I falter if I have DFA on CD. I would like to see a threat modifier attached to flame sweep. |
