RE: PVP Questions and Answers

Expertise is 'free' on Mods and Enhancements upto and including Battle Master (iLvl 58), whereas War Hero (iLvl 61) has a slight reduction to other stats in comparison with Campaign/Black Hole (iLvl), albeit the total reduction is still less than the added Expertise by a fair margin. Armorings (from iLvl 51 to 61)have a stat reduction roughly 80% of added Expertise rating. Above is true of set items and main-/offhands. Relics, implants, ear etc compares roughly to Armorings. ex-Warlock now-Sorc: likes the several powerful 'Health Funnels', disappointed by the weak 'Drain Life' available. RE: PVP Questions and Answers
I'm sure there is an answer somewhere on these forums that I just can't find. Can someone link me a thread that explains ideal accuracy levels in pvp?
From what I can tell, players have a base defense of 5% so does that mean everyone should get basic accuracy to 105% in order to never miss and do optimal dps? Does this depend a lot on class? For instance, I think combat sentinels do lots of white damage, so wouldn't it be really important for them to have basic accuracy to 105%? Maybe sages can get away with less? Is my line of thinking right here? |

RE: PVP Questions and Answers
Sages have effectively no need of Accuracy, as it doesn't affect Force and Tech attacks (excluding a couple rare exception). Classes need Accuracy in direct proportion to the percentage of their damage that comes from Melee or Ranged attacks. For example, Sages use 100% Force attacks, and therefore gain no benefit from Accuracy. Scoundrels use 75-85% Tech effects, and therefore gain very little benefit from Accuracy. Gunslingers use mostly Ranged attacks, and therefore gain significant benefit from Accuracy.
Where you actually want to stop in terms of accuracy depends on your class. Keep in mind that Accuracy has its own DR curve, so it's not just a binary choice between 0 Accuracy and capping it. It's fully possible that only, say, 3% Accuracy is worth stacking, and past that other stats are more useful. Where that point is (or if it's above 5%) is highly dependent on your class and spec. On that note, all player ACs except Sages and Shadows (and their Empire counterparts) have 5% base defense. Sages and Shadows have 10% to offset their light armor. Tanks will have further Defense, potentially up to 30% or more. However, 5% is the level which all targets are guaranteed to have, so beyond that Accuracy's benefit decreases as only a much smaller portion of your targets will have negatable defense above that level. Even Angels must kill from time to time...

RE: PVP Questions and Answers
I just got SWTOR, and it has been a battle. I am not getting level ups like I want, but I am constantly battling so it just seems like a waste of time. Any advice?

RE: PVP Questions and Answers
Just now finishing off leveling my Jedi Guardian to 50 and I have really enjoyed the tank spec all the way through. Now though it's time to settle into my 50 PvP spec of choice.
I have friends that do 50 PvP in the tank spec, but unless they are running with a group... they are fairly useless and run the risk of overloading on tank specs. With my Vanguard I found myself in a similar situation and ultimately went full on DPS. I really enjoy the Jedi Tank and I can't stand the focus play style... so, am I destined to be sub par in PvP? |

RE: PVP Questions and Answers
Hello!
I am a Scoundrel Healer. I have 2 questions. 1) Is there a Expertise cap? 2) Should I go for wrist and waist's empty shell and fill it with one PvE armoring and PvP mod? or should I stick with the WH for the expertise? I have done the maths and with the first option we have a +100 cunning and +46endurance, consequently +0.48 critical rating and +13 Bonus Healing. Whereas with the second option we have +80expertise. I appreciate your comments! |

Quote:1) Is there a Expertise cap? There's no (reachable) hard cap. Whether there's a specific desirable amount is a matter of debate. Even Angels must kill from time to time...

Now though it's time to settle into my 50 PvP spec of choice. I've been doing a lot of PvP lately and have yet to see how tanks are in any way "useless" or even "sub-par." The problem is just that the things they're really good at aren't very well represented on the scoreboard, namely holding objectives and carrying the Huttball. In fact, just yesterday in a Voidstar match, I (Sorcerer DPS) and a Juggernaut tank ended up dying about the same time on defense, so he went ahead and threw Guard on me while we were waiting for the shield to come down. I stuck close to him to stay in Guard range, and the two of us ended up holding a door against five people for nearly a minute. Note that besides keeping us both bubbled I threw maybe one heal the whole time, and yes those five people were stunning us every chance they got. Basically, not dying is both extremely underrated in PvP, and something that full tank specs are still very good at even under focus fire. I am TIRED of these nerf-herding Jedi on this nerf-herding ship!

RE: PVP Questions and Answers
So I guess I should dig up this old thread, I am wondering about expertise and at what level you dont need it anymore, I have a DPS Sniper and a Assassin Tank (Pure HP Build) and I am wondering at what level of expertise I should stop at.

Now though it's time to settle into my 50 PvP spec of choice. The problem is mitigation, Insta crit force smashes, any elemental attacks from eng/sorcs/sages, many pyro attacks, crit RS, etc.. None can be mitigated with anything other than raw armor. After viewing several hundred fights in torparse what I run into as a tank, even post 2.0 with the shield changes is less than 25% of all incoming damage is able to be mitigated in a real world scenario, and that would be with perfect (unobtainable) defensive stats. Realistically you wind up mitigating less than half of that so roughly a 12~15% EHP increase at the cost of all your damage. The rest of your mitigation comes from expertise and armor which is the same if you're in DPS gear or not. For some specs like Darkness Sin it just makes more sense to grab a shield gen with darkward and mod/aug for power, 1000 bonus force damage at the cost of 5% or so EHP is a no brainer. Tanking stats in pvp just dont work the way we need them to especially in regards to crits to make it viable imo. The exception to this is of course huttball where you merely need every bit of survivability you can muster as a ball runner, but that's where having 2 sets of gear you can swap out between matches comes in handy as well considering you can grind out a full set of partisan in a day or two. |
