Sith Assassin

The Sith Assassin is still running a solid second for my class choices. DPS/Heal may be a bit like the WoW DK maybe, gaining some healing while dishing out the punishment. What still sides me with the SW vs the SA as my primary choice is actually purely cosmetic – the look of heavier armors.

Well, and everything that lends itself to this juicy statement: "A Sith Warrior, on the other hand, is more direct in the way he
approaches combat." The character I have in my head is a very direct, hands-on sort of guy.

some info from the recent Q&A comparing Assassin vs warrior game play and also no stealth in combat which was no surprise.

Q: Can you play the Inquisitor as a melee class as effectively as the Sith Warrior? – Sanathor

A: The Inquisitor can branch into two Advanced Classes. He can either
become a Sith Sorcerer, striking with lightning and devastating dark
side Force powers at their targets from afar or train to become a Sith
Assassin, a deadly melee class that specializes in double-bladed
Lightsaber combat.

The Sith Assassin can, if skilled appropriately, be just as effective
in a melee combat as a Sith Warrior, but both have their own set of
gameplay mechanics and abilities that set them apart:

The Sith Assassin may use the Force to approach unseen, wield a
double-bladed Lightsaber, chain Force attacks and strong melee finishing
moves for burst damage and gain access to powerful positional attacks
that require the player to plan their movement carefully.

A Sith Warrior, on the other hand, is more direct in the way he
approaches combat. He may learn to dual wield (as a Marauder Advanced
Class), use Force Charge to quickly bridge large distances on the
battlefield, and/or specialize in devastating single target and area
attacks with his Lightsaber.

Q: Can stealth classes turn their stealth on during a fight? – SankPKer

A: Scoundrels, Operatives, Shadows and Assassins currently cannot enter stealth while in combat.

I agree Loki, the potential to have hybrid dps/tank or dps/heal with a stealth mechanic on either of those combos can make them very difficult to heal. We've seen self healing durable class combos very difficult to bring down in other MMOs. There needs to be an Achilles heal so that they aren't extremely difficult to bring down in PvP.

I sense a dangerous PvP imbalance lurking here.

If the Assassin gets some self buffs that will boost hi's survivability on par with the heavy armor wearing SW/BH.

I just hope they desing the trees so that you only get those buffs at the very end off your Darkness tree, so you cant boost your damage too much while also gaining access to a huge survivability boost. But then again putting those talents so far out of reach you cant get them untill near level cap is punishing to low level tanking. (Then again, this also applies to other tank classes)

This is a slippery slope BW has taken, let's hope they pull it off.

The SI is shaping up to be a real badass. The fact that they use the force for defensive abilities to tank is pretty unique since the Sith Warrior and Bounty Hunter both have heavy armor. The SI can perform any roll in the trinity, although once you choose your AC its either dps/heal or dps/tank so players will need to make the decision early on.

This is the latest update in which they added tanking .

Sith Inquisitor Advanced Classes

Sith Assassin (Roles: Close - Mid Range Damage Dealing, Tanking)

Sith Sorcerer (Roles: Mid-Long Range Damage Dealing, Healing)

  • Similar to the Jedi Shadow, an Inquisitor trained in the Assassin
Advanced Class now are able to fill the role of a tank, if they work
their way up the ‘Darkness’ skill tree, which includes abilities to increase defensive Lightsaber capabilities and area-of-effect damage.
  • The ‘Madness’ skill tree, shared between both the
Assassin and the Sorcerer, has received considerable upgrades with the
goal of creating a range/melee hybrid gameplay option.

They also state that it would be "Similar to the Jedi Shadow"

  • Melee DPS/Stealth/Tank (Based on Darth Maul)

  • Wields the Saberstaff/Double Bladed Saber
  • Burst Melee DPS
  • Tanking via "Darkness" Skill tree
  • Uses Stealth (how or to what extent is yet unknown.)
  • Still have some lightning and other dark powers, but you’re much
more effective when you leap right into combat and engage in melee.
  • "If specialized in melee, would a very devious controlling kind, he
doesn't have much armors, but he has full use of the Force and he can
use it in all sorts of exotic ways to boost his own survivability."

RE: Sith Assassin
I think the specialisation choices for the Tankasin are going to be really tough as they are unlikely to have the benefit of Heavy armour damage mitigation to allow then to redirect points from the Darkness Tanking tree to other tree's to boost DPS without significantly reducing their "Tankability".

Looking through the other thread here I see a general assumption being made that for arguments sake if we gain specialization points every level then we're looking at a pool of around 41 points at level cap 50. Based on that and the idea that the End tree feat is usually a "highly desirable" for your particular class AC choice and this takes approx 30 points of investment to unlock then we're left with approx 10 points to allocate "freely"

As its a common practice across many games to require a minimum of at least 5 points spent in each "tier" of a spec tree before unlocking the next tier, it's interesting to see what's on offer in the first couple of tiers in our shared tree here Remember this is all subject to change however its fun to play with while we wait.

I am also going to "assume" here that the lower buff type abilities we will get from the AC tree's ie deception Buff for melee dps bosst and darkness buff for damage mitigation will be not be usable together. Meaning that if you choose Darkness you're options in Deception will be very limited and likewise for Deception Sins being limited in the Darkness tree otherwise we will surely see some big balancing issues. So for now I'm looking more to the shared "Madness" tree for support ideas [/align]

RE: Sith Assassin
Here are the Assassin trees that I did up. I will be posting SW trees as well shortly. I'm about to check on the BH posts to see if they have a good talent tree disection and if not I'll look to have those done too in the next few days providing I can find good screen shots. IA ones are already posted and I believe that there are already good Sorc ones so that is the Empire classes complete. I have no worries doing any of the republic classes either even though they are mirrors, once again if I can get good quality SS's. Any soucing help is apprecaited.

Enjoy!

RE: Sith Assassin
Nice work, Sol! I'll add them into the Tanking Compendium for those who want the real thing.
