Dev Interview: Augment Tables & Kits in 1.3
The SW:TOR Facebook page posted this interview with Inquisitor's Roadhouse to my news feed not too long ago. It includes a full overview of how the augment-adding system is going to work.
Summary: 1. When viewing an item's modification screen at an Item Modification Table, there will be an "add augment slot" button. Using this button consumes a moderate amount of credits and an Augment Kit. 2. Augment Kits will be craftable by Armstechs, Armormechs, and Synthweavers (sorry Artificers, apparently you can't have nice things ) from Augment Kit Components, and will be BoE. You will obtain one Component for every crafted item you RE in addition to the normal material recovery, and it takes ten Components to craft one Kit. The schematics will be available from your crafting trainer.3. Starting in 1.3, augment slots will be tiered, with higher-tier slots required in order to insert higher-level augments. The tier of an augment slot added using an Augment Kit will depend on the tier of the Kit used, which will depend on the tier of the Components used to craft it, which will depend on the item levels of the items RE'd to obtain them. The tier of the augment slot on any item crit-crafted after 1.3 will depend on the level of the item. Augment slots on gear crafted before 1.3 will gain either the tier matching the item's level or the minimum required tier to hold the current augmnet (if the augment slot is filled), whichever is higher. UPDATE 5/18/12: Wild dev posts have appeared! I am TIRED of these nerf-herding Jedi on this nerf-herding ship!

RE: Dev Interview: Augment Tables & Kits in 1.3
Wow that change is going to have a major ripple affect. I think this will be a very positive change however. As an armormech I'm really looking forward to this change. On my server purple level 49-50 gear isn't even selling. If the assumption is correct that this will make them more valuable, then that's great. I still have my doubts about that but I guess we'll see.
With the dying population that I'm seeing, it would be really great to see cross server pvp queues implemented as well as flashpoint queues. I think those two changes could possibly bring a lot of people back to SWTOR. I'm sure those changes are coming, it's just a matter of how soon. |

Just updated the OP with a summary of how the system is going to work (for those who don't want to read the whole interview).

RE: Dev Interview: Augment Tables & Kits in 1.3
So only the current augment crafts can produce the augment kits, which will be BoE?
So as a biochem, how am I going to get my campaign gear augmented, drop biochem and go synth? |

Augment slots on gear crafted before 1.3 will remain un-tiered and will continue to fit any level of augment. Sounds to me like 1.2 Augmented gear is going to be crazy good b/c of that non-tiered aug slot. Time to make a bunch and sit on them till 1.3 drops, methinks. http://www.amway.com/evansunlimited http://www.facebook.com/evansunlimited |

Sadly, according to a recent dev post it turns out this was not meant to be; pre-1.3 augment slots will in fact be getting tiers. I've updated the appropriate section of the OP. RE: Dev Interview: Augment Tables & Kits in 1.3
ug....should not have tried to RE my Campaign gear to try and get the recipe
Great change, because as it stands now you pretty much can't use the campaign gear for looks due to lack of augment slot. Just have to get a second set of gear for looks...
