Playing Guild Wars 2 this weekend?
Join us on Fort Aspenwood!

MMO-Mechanics will be forming a guild on the Fort Aspenwood server this weekend and we would like you to join us!

The goal is to bring together as many top quality players as possible to shorten the learning curve and provide quality player grouping. Many of SWTOR's best guilds and MMO-Mechanics forum community are coming together to form a base population for the MMO-Mechanics guild on Fort Aspenwood. We should have a fun time.

We will also be covering the weekend with multiple articles as well as live streaming on our Twitch.tv channel. Bookmark this page and check back often as we provide as much information as we can about getting started in Guild Wars 2.

RE: Playing Guild Wars 2 this weekend?
I'll certainly be playing as soon as I get home. Unfortunately, Whispers of Chaos (Legend Gaming chapter in GW2) chose Sorrow's Furnace as our server for the Beta Weekend so I won't be able to join you.

I wish all of you a good beta weekend, let's all have lots of fun and explore the game!

RE: Playing Guild Wars 2 this weekend?
LOVED it. I loved it for the sPvP. WvWvW was very cool, my fear is what it will be like 2 months into the game. If the population goes way down it'll be to big of an area for 100 people. It needs large amounts of people. The story I dont think was as good as SWTOR's from what I saw, but the dynamic events were very cool. It was easy to find things to get involved in all over the place.

I look forward to sPvP a lot. I love how you get access to every ability all gear for free 5 minutes after you create the character. No grind needed at all. This is for sPvP only, you need your skill ups and gear for WvW and PvE. Tons of options for creating your own builds.

I wish you luck; theorycrafting and build-making for Guild Wars is a lot less straightforward than most games, at least at first glance.

RE: Playing Guild Wars 2 this weekend?
I was shocking disappointed in the game. I tried not to go in with any expectations so I would not be disappointed from a beta standpoint, but I came out disliking the game even more. The game lacks any type of direction in terms of leveling and the dynamic events are pretty outright boring. I remember the first one I came to on my Ranger was put eggs back in their nest and there was several people also doing it and it took FOREVER. I could have ran around and collected 10 eggs like a normal quest and it would have been quicker. And then at the end I get a few Copper pieces and no loot?

I tried the Ranger, Mesmer, Engineer and Necromancer and the Necromancer was probably the least boring of all the classes I played. The only thing I did enjoy that I had to find out on my own was the ability to cast and run instead of like every other MMO where you have to stand still to cast outside of instant cast. Sadly that was the highlight of the weekend. The Story cut scenes are very non-immersive in the way they decided to deliver them and I found myself disinterested in the conversation anyways that I skipped to the end.

Luckily I did not have to pre-order the game to get into the beta as I got a key from PAX because this would be one I'd definitely cancel the pre-order on.

Totally agree, especially since our focus my particular focus will be sPvP. The number of possibilities for each class is quite extreme. I'm working on looking into the 13gb DAT file from the BWE client to see if there are any numbers tables in it like SWTOR had. Be nice if they laid it all out for us. Wink

Yeah, I played Guild Wars 1 for a little under a year (around when Nightfall came out), and spent at least as much time brainstorming builds as I did actually playing the game.

My favorite that I came up with was probably an Assassin nova build that in theory could take out a level 28 mob in 5-6 seconds (and then twiddle its thumbs for 30 seconds waiting for six skills to come off cooldownAngel), although I was never able to test it due to not having Factions.

I had the same type of feeling playing the game. I like PVP (at least in SWTOR and of course games like BF3) however it's not enough to keep me interested. I need to feel like I'm building my character and have that connection. The questing or "new school" type of questing is cool (I did like Warhammers Area Quests) however it felt very disjointed and lacking direction, IMO.

Regarding the actual combat, it's not too bad however I think I appreciate SWTOR now even more. I don't like having to open or unlock abilities, I'd rather learn the ability and have the handful to choose from depending on the situation. In my mind this is what separates the classes since some are better at things than others. I also did not like the semi cut-scenes and such... either give me SWTOR's in depth scenes, at least the first time through, or just give me a quest giver and some text.

Aesthetically, it looked cool and had some nice grimy areas however after seeing the world, I actually appreciate SWTOR's better.

All in all, I was meh about it. Honestly, after playing it for a while I just wanted logout and play SWTOR. It's funny because after Tera's beta then GW2, it reiterates for me at least, that I think SWTOR has a good future. I know they're not there yet however as it grows AND the competition gets more fierce, I can't help feeling like something good is on the horizon.
