Ranked Warzones? - Antares - 02-17-2012 05:13 AM

I read about this a little bit in the q&a for patch 1.2 but I'm still fuzzy on the detials of how it will work exactly. Will we create like a team of people via some guild like format and then zone in as a group/team and then get ranked that way? Or will it be an individual kind of ranking?

It is hard enough getting 4 people online who all like to pvp all at the same time for most small guilds/casual players let alone 8. It seems if they do team only rankings then it just seems like only the big guilds will be able to supply teams to this sort of format. But if it is just individual then you are just basically pugging and the ranking system will be fairly random and arbitrary. Just not sure how they intend to pull this off and if anyone has anymore info it would be appreciated, thanks.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to gather much info on this subject as of late. However; they would likely need to allow the creation of eight man ques for war zones. As most PvP groups would not want to rely on four random players in their group if they are trying for a rank. Individual ranking might be possible but that is a better question actually suited towards the development team.

the problem with ranked warzones is going to be wether or not they implement cross server queing at the same time.

if there is no cross server queing, its gonna suck if you get into the higher ranks as you will always be playing the same group of people which will probably go the same way most of the time.

if its cross server, it might be good.

The cross server ability will likely not be available at patch 1.2, so you could end up playing the same group. However, if you learn the other group's strats (by playing them often), you can maybe learn weaknesses. Anyway, ranked warzones is a good addition either way.

My PvP group is really looking forward to this. Currently we have 4 Battlemasters and a War Hero (I'm the slow poke that only got to 60 yesterday) that group regularly, we have commitment from two other BM's and and a few Champions that are still valor grinding to 60.
Normally when we queue the better fights are four pre-mades going against each other, so if we can get some regular 8v8 action without the need to medal farm it'd be great Smile

I have to assume they will allow full premades to pull this off. But I haven't read anything about it.

I really hope it's possible to queue with 8 men! Otherwise we'd be really, really sad Sad

I'd love to have some information on this matter but I'm afraid we've gotta wait until the patch is out :/

A much larger issue will be whether we will be able to choose which Warzones to participate in. As an operative, I know I'm damn near useless in huttball, and if we get true min/max teams then huttball will be 8 sorcs vs 8 sorcs every time. In fact, I doubt whether a top tear team will even have snipers/operatives/jugs/marauders at all.

RE: Ranked Warzones? - Antares - 02-25-2012 04:42 AM

I think people overestimate the impact sorcs have in huttball, no doubt they are effective. But juggs with force leap and intercede actually will be more useful in ranked wz's due to the fact that people will be spaced out more strategically. Usually in pug huttball it is a cluster f of people around the ball carrier and all it takes is one sorc with any intelligence to just grab him up to one of the upper platforms and its an easy score.

If you don't let people get ahead of the ball carrier by actually covering them, engaging them, and knocking them off their little perch those op abilities people complain about are pretty much neutralized.

This still leaves marauders/operatives/snipers and to a lesser degree the BH classes at a severe disadvantage in huttball. They were all designed to be extremely efficient dps'ers, and they sacrificed mobility to achieve this. Unfortunately, you can win a huttball 6-0 without doing any damage whatsoever to the other team, as this warzone revolves ENTIRELY around mobility.
