RE: Juggernaut leveling questions - krby71 - 01-06-2012 06:43 AM

OK, so tank it is. I am currently 27. I have been running veng with Quinn.

I will change my spec to this: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#101cMG0oZhMM.1

When I get to 50 I think I will look like this: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#101cMGcubrouRZhMMZh.1

Please let me know where I could better spend my points (thanks for all the great advice so far!)

I think Malice isn't very good. I think our only Force attacks are Smash and Force Scream, not sure. I recommend Accuracy instead. As a general rule, crit is a poor option for tanks.

If you do that and replace two points in Battle Cry with two points in Quake, you have a tank spec suitable for operations.

thanks

As always you can play this however you want.

My opinions:

Veng spec isn't veng spec unless you have Shien Form. If you are planning on DPS jugging to 50 take all veng talents until you get to the top tier. You want the rageless smash etc.

If you want to go tank go all tank. Mixing and matching without enough points kinda burns ya.

In regards to the companions:

I wanted, for my own story, to use my Apprentice. I was scared at first to give up Quinn, but after I did, I realized that the dps companion is perfectly viable to faceroll elites with. Quinn is still required for random champions with 60k+ health, but don't feel like you are required to stick with Quinn if you are a tank jugg.

/end opinions

I just hit 50 leveling Immortal Jugg with tank gear. I have to admit that I leveled along side a bounty hunter using Mako while I had Vette out most of the time. This let me learn snap threat and which mobs to ignore while my DPS burned them down.

I leveled as Immortal from level 30 till 50 and sat in Soresu form since going the Immortal tree. I did vengeance up until 30 and Shien form was what I used for that tree.

Earlier in the thread someone mentioned letting Jaesa take a bit of agro, I tried this and felt I couldn't get the rage I needed to maximize my DPS when leveling.

Some people in my guild who are leveling as Immortal insist on using Malavi which I think is a terrible way to level. Sure you may not have to stop but it takes twice as long to kill stuff.

Not really sure what other people are talking about having "issues" with mobs and all that. If you are geared and spec'd Immortal the healing companion never lets you drop below 75% unless you manage to completely ignore the fact that you need to interrupt high damage abilities. One problem though is that it's easy to Line of Sight your companion and if they still have sight on the target they will just dps and stop healing... This may not be the "Fastest" way of dealing with packs, but it definitely teaches you to keep enemies off your healer and you truly do feel "Immortal" Tongue

This!

I, too, went full Immortal and used Quinn the whole way. I decimated everything from large pack mobs to chain soloing elites without ever dropping below 70% health. If you keep Quinn and your gear up to snuff as you level you will be a real "Juggernaut".

RE: Juggernaut leveling questions - Rystet - 01-08-2012 11:13 AM

I have been able to level two juggernauts to 50 now. On beta I leveled Immortal and on live I went Vengeance.

As Immortal I used Soresu form once I got into the talent tree a bit. Most of the benefits of the spec require it. In regards to companions I bounced between Quin and Vette depending on the situation difficulty. I mostly used Quin though. It was zero downtime with tons of survivability. I enjoyed the flexibility of being able to tank flashpoints and still be able to level at a reasonable pace when solo.

As Vengeance I used Quin just about 100% of the time. I still had good survivability and things died so much faster. There were a few situations that I switched into Soresu if the fight was getting rough, but overall it was not necessary. I really blasted through the leveling process and enjoyed the combat a lot more.

Overall if you are trying to get to 50 to start endgame, I would suggest going Vengeance. It will be faster. If you plan on tanking at 50, use the commendations from the last couple planets on Tanking gear to start building a set.

I've been doing some reading and I'm trying to get an understanding of the relationship of crit with power/strength/alacrity.

The problem I have is that I don't know if I'm gimping myself with the crit I get from gear (drops, vendors, etc), or if I should replace the crit mods/gear with power/alacrity instead.

I'm sure I could write a small app to simulate raw numbers, but it wouldn't be accurate. I was just wondering if anyone's done any tests with it.

For example, my current numbers on my Level 40 Marauder are:

(Pri)
BWD: 179-268
MDB: +165
PWD: 344-433

(Sec)
BWD: 179-268
DWM: 66%
DWDA: 118-177

Bonus Damage:
Str(678) +135.6
Pwr(126) +29
Total: 164.6

Crit chance: 15.98%
Crit mult: 56.15%

So I have a 16% chance to crit with a 56.15% mult., but if I lower crit and replace it with power/alacrity, I'll get more base output via the bonus damage, but will I be losing overall damage in a fight due to lost crit?

Sorry, if this was referenced somewhere, I haven't seen it.

Thanks.
