We tried some SOA hardmode pulls last night. Maybe I am simple, or it is possible I just was tired and not paying attention to the little details of the lightning balls.
Whichever the reason, how should they be handled now? I think our issue was having people headbutt them and get the tick plus the explosion, it was messy especially with the healers getting mind trapped.
What is the proper handling of the Lightning balls in Hardmode SOA after 1.1?

Whoever gets targeted by the balls gets a DBM style warning in the middle of their screen. That person, especially if they're melee, needs to run away from everyone, and get shielded by a sorc. Once they are, they need to charge right at the ball and blow it up. The idea is to only take 1 tick of the lighting, then the explosion, and to not hit anyone else. Doing this will probably do about 14k or 15k damage, so the really need to be at full health.
Once they take the hit, heal them up, and repeat.
The thing to remember in this fight, is except for mindtraps/soa in p3, (where there are much fewer orbs) this is a TOTAL control fight. Communicate often. You can kite those orbs around until your healer is out of the mind trap, no problem. Don't make the mistake of trying to treat this like a burn fight, and have your members pop the orbs too early.
Wait until they're kited out, healed, and shielded - you have time.

So we have been continuing our efforts on SOE and have discovered a few things.
1. If you have your tank charge in first he will always get mindtraped, we solved this by having another melee in there first it didn't seem to matter that our tank taunted just that if he was in melee alone when a phase started he would always be mindtraped.
2. You cannot phase change whilst someone is in either a whirlwind or mindtrap if there are a lot of people in the instance (the number in top left of screen). If there are a lot of people when they are released they will be placed into a different instance.
3. Ball lightning through the floor sucks.

So we're on hardmode/nightmare Soa as well and we pretty much always run in to the same problem. How to stop the balls from pulsing before exploding? No one in our raid can survive 2 pulses + explosion. Even charging head on, this is easily 16-17k damage.
How do others handle this?

Has anyone else experienced Soa randomly disappearing? We've been working on him tonight, and he's just disappeared at the end of P3 three times in a row and not reappeared. We've had to 'Exit Area' in order to leave the instance since nothing else was happening.

So when we completed 8 man Nightmare Soa we received "The infernal" title.
I'm assuming this is a reward for the Nightmare mode EV timed run. i.e. clear EV Nightmare in under 2 hours.
We also got a chest after killing Soa with 3 columi commendation and an additional Dessler Avenger mount. Which I believe are also part of the the timed run reward.
Edited to specify Nightmare Mode not normal.

My guild is doing getting stuck on HM Soa. We can do the rest w/o out a problem or a wipe and have done Karagga's palace w/o much problem.
We can't get past the second phase of Soa. We have tried kiting the orbs as well as diving into them. Kiting just gets to hectic and popping the balls just doesn't seem to work.
Our comp is:
2 DPS Snipers
1 Dps Sorc
1 Dps Merc
1 Healing Op
1 Healing Merc
1 Jugg tank
1 Jugg off tank/dps
Raid buffed everyone has 17k+ hp and lightning balls are doing about half health if we're lucky (one tick+ explosion) or 80%-90% if more ticks to dps.
We have tried grouping up in the middle circle, tried spreading out but it just doesn't seem to work out for us.
Any more suggestions/tips?

We have a similar comp and are having the same issues (we use 2 Operatives to heal). The easiest solution/tip is to get a Sorcerer healer and put Static Barrier on people prior to getting blown up.
After 2 hours of attempts we were able to get 2 pulls to phase 3, what we did was stack all our ranged / healers in one pile. When balls spawned, we had the 2 people that the raid warning mentions run to either side of the pile to get their ball away from the group and make sure that it didn't go anywhere near Soa, as a lot of our deaths early on were lightning balls' AOE finishing off people that are finishing the taxi ride of getting force thrown around the room. If a healer gets CC'd by the wind or Mind Trap, we told people to kite until the healer was freed so the damage wasn't overwhelming.

Lackies, do you mean NiM mode, or NM? Because we full cleared EV last night on NM in 33 minutes with no deaths, and we looked for the speed run achievement/title and we didn't get it.
