RE: Eternity Vault: SOA - Tactician - 12-29-2011 03:46 PM

We were doing 8 man normal mode SOA on Tuesday Dec 28th, and were encountering a bug in phase 4 (bottom floor phase) where after dropping a pylon on his head to lower his shield, when he stands up from kneeling and regains a shield, he would reset. The top floor would reform and he would be up there, anybody down below had to suicide in the lava to get out. We assumed that he was trying to target somebody in a mind trap with the hurricane ability or something and that caused him to bug out.

It was a PUG so our DPS was not the greatest, I think destroying all the traps asap would alleviate this problem.

We downed him with a PUG on the 26th, and we didn't encounter a single bug on him, but I've heard from a couple people that they had the same issue that you did.

It seems his enrage is not at all time based, but rather it's based on how many of the pillars he drops. This means that no matter how good you do up top, once you're on the bottom you really need to focus your DPS.

We kept wiping with about 5% left on him, so I tried a new strat - During the ground phase, we'd bust people out of the mind traps ASAP, as we did before. If he was vulnerable, or about to become vulnerable, we'd get the people out of the mindtrap IF they were DPS, but if they were a healer we'd leave them in and focus on the boss until he was immune again, and then we'd go back to breaking people out.

Doing this we never got more than 2 people in a mind trap, and we downed him the first try with this new strat.

For about 50% of the ground phase we did have either1 or 0 healers, but with some heads up playing and potion use from the raid members this wasn't an issue.

We also used only 1 tank and 2 heals for the whole place, so I'm not sure if that's something you did or not. Every fight is definitely doable with that combination, and the extra DPS or two is definitely worth it.

We had 2 people specced tank the entire run, so that definitely made the DPS pretty low. You could tell if one DPS was in a trap and a second DPS was in the hurricane taxi ride, that the mind trap was pretty difficult to break.

We did this today. We wiped for about 1 hour before we got him in normal. Wiped alot on 10%. But it was because we missed alot of them spinning thingys that takes away his shield. You cannot really do that. You have to hit every single spinning thingy (lol thingy..) to survive and kill him. Atleast that's how it felt.

We did get way to many mind traps if we missed 1 or 2 shields. Both healers helped dpsing the mind traps and the boss when he didnt have a shield to get this done. There is almost no healing (or well, shouldnt be atleast when the dps part is happening). And we did it easily, didnt enrage etc.

***
Allthough we had a bugg on this boss. I was the only one that died just about 1 second before the boss died. Everyone else was alive. 1 person took periodic damage and everyone was still in combat. And combat ress would not work. So I had to release and go back in.

When I did that there was no path down, I jumped down and died again. So we toled the one that took the periodic damage still would exit the area and when he did the periodic damage just jumped over to the another raid-member. And it kept going like that until the last one. So I didnt get my loot and another dude didnt get loot either because of this.

Also, we didnt get a bosskill picture -sad-

Fun fight though. Looking forward to it in HM/Nightmare.

Yeah, if you're mindtrapped when he dies you have to run back in as well, jump down and take a rez for your loot.

Tactician - First night we tried this we went in with 2 tanks and 3 healers, and we couldn't get him past 15% before he enraged. We did this again last night with another pug and did 1 tank 2 heals from the start. Full clear of the whole place in less than an hour, and SoA died after the third pillar. WAY easier with the right raid comp. Even when we did this last week, our extra two dps was a healer and tank in dps/tank spec. This week with true dps it was noticeably easier.

Also, Soa dropped a mount tonight. Just FYI, it's the most awful, ugly looking mount I've ever seen. And that's saying something in this game. Don't freak out when you don't get it. In fact, be glad, and laugh at the sucker who feels obligated to use it now to show off.

You're free to have your opinion, but I got that mount and it's pretty freaking cool. That is all

Well, didnt work to res because everyone was in combat still and the combat ress didnt work. So kinda hard to ress then ^^,

Also, the mount dropped for us aswell. Seems to be a 100% droprate on it. I thought the mount was awesome. Would love to have one.

Mount didn't drop for us the first times we killed him.

Ah kay. Well seems like its a very high drop rate in that case. Seen several on my server and seen alot of posts on different forums that killed the boss first time go it etc. Seems to be atleast a 50% drop rate on it then I guess.

RE: Eternity Vault: SOA - Chamillion - 01-02-2012 09:38 PM

We've started working on him yesterday in 16m HM, which seems to be a bit easier than 8m due to having more people to deal with lightning balls which is really the only thing that makes the fight difficult. They make the transition from the rest of the hard modes completely different. It's an interesting encounter. We're starting 16m NM with the reset, more interested to start getting some attempts on him in there. We were all glad to see an encounter that wasn't just a one shot, as are the other HM's. Also we've killed Soa a couple times now and not seen nor heard of a mount. Interesting.
