We killed him on HM last night. Just separate your group by sides. Try to avoid taking too many melee. Watch your positioning for the knock back. Vents/Pillars have about a 50/50 chance to allow you to hit the wall and bounce back onto the pit. Bring one tank. The enrage is tight. Also make sure you're having the tank call out target of target so that people can position themselves as soon as he goes to switch. The option can be set in keybinds > targeting. Default is alt+t.

When you say separate groups by sides do you mean have the raid split even into a left and right group?

Split it into all four sides. Best way to keep people away from each other. Stay in your sections. If the call outs on targeting are on point, normally that person can run out and catch him toward the center as he engages. If not just run through his legs and keep him facing the center if you can. The enrage is pretty tight, if you lose people to knock backs in the poison it could very well cost you the kill.

I dunno if we just have the worst luck ever or if we're doing something wrong. The boss would randomly turn while cleaving and hit a few people with it, which was our biggest problem. He can take either 10 seconds to switch to a new target or switch and then switch again in 2 seconds. People would randomly die to cleaves while being no where near him (like way behind him) and also get hit with the backhand he does while a good distance behind him and end up in acid.
I just don't get it... hard mode soa to 13% tonight and couldn't budge this guy below 50%.
Thinking back now, I believe our raid comp is what crippled us, we had 2 ranged dps, 3 melee and a tank and 2 healers. Definitely think it would go alot smoother with 2 melee, 2 healers and 4 ranged dps.

For sure not a melee friendly fight. I wouldn't think to much on that 13% Soa vs 50% Bone HM, that's when it gets hairy in Soa's world
He will bounce between his targets, but if both are melee this is going to require some quick repositioning on their part to not end up swiped or knocked back.

did a last minute hardmode kill of this guy last night (8man)
with a mix of champion/rakata/columi gear we barely made the enrage, 4 ranged, 2 melee, 2 healers granted we lacked a sentinel for a good setup
but it seems nightmare mode cant tolerate more then 1 healer, and getting hit by swipe is out of the question
which considering some of the bugs in this fight can be quite a challenge....he could at least stop following his target when swiping (rotation wise)
AND GIVE US A GODDAMN TARGET OF TARGET

You have target of target. Default is Alt T, you can change it in the keybindings section of targeting. On NMM you're going to need more than one healer for sure. That pounce does raid wide damage and would overwhelm your healer trying to get everyone back to full while healing his primary target. Our problem with NMM is that his swipe is killing people standing behind him. You have to have melee stand at max range pretty much all the time. The more people you put in this encounter the harder it becomes. 16m NMM is pretty rough on healing.

the ToT keybind isnt exactly an option, since you would need a person sacreficing his ability to dps just to check ToT constantly
the dps tolerance is already pretty low

See, we had this same problem on any mode we tried. The easiest way to "explain" it is that when he swipes, you can also get hit by his tail. We just told people to avoid his arms and tail, and we honestly haven't really had any issue with this since.
We did this last week and didn't have anyone hit by the swipe, so I really think this fight is all about playing heads up - while still putting out enough DPS to down him of course.

Last night after subsequent pulls from a wipe, our ops group would spawn right in front of Bonethrasher, letting him Swipe the whole group prior to starting the fight. I'm assuming that's why folks in the thread make reference to resetting the instance and clearing trash again?
This was on 8-man hard mode for reference.
