Bounty Hunter & Trooper - Simple Questions and Answers - Monika TSarn - 11-16-2011 10:33 AM

Please post general discussion topics in this thread, especially general class questions that don't necessarily fit in a specific role thread. Enjoy! -Alratan

I'm thinking of playing a trooper, but I'm not sure about what AC.
I really like the assault specialist tree. The tree ist mostly identical between the vanguard and commando. I want a pvp build that can stay at range and mobile, with little casted abilities. Lots of energy damage is good I assume to ignore armor, and the delayed hit of assault plastique allows burst damage if timed right.

Here's my two specs:
Vanguard http://torguild.net/calculator/trooper/vanguard/?p=031000000000000000020310000000000000000320320221203232031
I will mostly use plasma cell of course, for added damage. But if I have a healer around I could switch to ion cell and use guard instead, not loosing to much damage.
Very nice here: High impact bolt ignores 90% armor, has +30% crit damage, and costs just 1 ammo if the dot from incendiary round is up. Unfortunately ionic accelerator to refresh it only works at short range ( ion pulse+stockstrike) with this build.

Commando http://torguild.net/calculator/trooper/commando/?p=00000000000000000000203311000000000000000320320221203232031
Less damage, especially just 30% armor piercing on high impact bolt, no possibility to switch to tank, but I have some heals.
Ionic accelerator is actually ranged here, with charged bolts and full auto having a chance to refresh high impact bolt. Of course those are channeled.

Just a note that energy damage does not ignore armour: Armour resists against Kinetic and Energy, with Elemental and Internal handled by separate DRs.

Oh right, I mistyped. I ment elemental damage, from plasma cell and incendiary round.

Your spec could use some improvement; you skip out a lot of DPS talents in the Assault Spec tree and get talents that help in only certain situations.

This is the one I would use, and I'll give you a run through of the differences. Firstly, I took points out of the stealth detection talent, because there are only 2 out of 8 classes that really use stealth, and from what it looks like, it's really lackluster. It's a good talent and definitely useful, but not when you have other talent points which are BETTER. For example, Adrenaline Fueled reduces the CD of a major DPS cooldown (free cost shot) for every crit, something that will increase your DPS, and for PvP it has a nice niche which is decreasing the CD of a defensive cooldown. This is what I picked for that.

I added two extra points into the AS tree to get the Rapid Recharge talent. Again, reducing the CD of major cooldowns is more DPS than other talents and can save your skin.

I took points out of the pushback talent and cost reduction talent, since you can only use Charged Rounds whilst standing still. Putting more burst into your Recharge Cells by going in the Combat Medic tree I think is more useful.

This overall makes you an instant cast CD based nuker, instead of a sustained with some standstill burst ranged. An example of a burst standstill nuker would be the Gunnery commando, which I'm looking forward to playing at launch. Big Grin

Hope that helps a bit. I'll look at the Vanguard one too if you like, but know this: Vanguards are mainly melee, so if you're the aggressive type that should be the advanced class that you'll be best at.

Some of the new talent trees/ability lists, like appear to show that Jet Charge/Storm no longer have a minimum range.

Can anyone confirm this?

Are you sure you'll have enough 30m attacks for this to work ? The idea here was to try and use full auto and high impact bolt when there's a chance to use them, the instant attacks otherwise. If you don't plan on using them at all, why put the 3 points into ionic accelerator at all ? Ionic accelerator seems to be one of the best features of the assault specialist, allowing our hardest-hitting attack to be used more often and for free. That means you need the 10 points in gunnery to make full auto and charged bolts worth using.
I agree on taking points out of the stealth detection talent for rapid recharge. The only choice I see is between reflexive shield and adrenaline fueled - one for more defense, one for more energy recovery. I suppose adrenaline fueled is optimal for a pve dps build, reflexive shield might be more usefull in pvp.

What the heck is Blitz/Shoulder Slam(lvl 34 ability) for? - Poombibio - 12-08-2011 03:01 AM

Im trying to figure out WTH Bioware was thinking on this.

Obviously Merc/Commando's aren't gonna use it at all due to its 4m range.

Advanced Prototype/Tactics and the Tanks could use it, but when?? Given its restricted to incapacitated targets, that probably means that you can't use on Boss fights. Yet it has a 45 second CD which means im likely to forget about it on any other pull unless I plan to use some stun/Slam macro. It is good damage for no cost. I can really only see doing that if I have a heat issue, and Thermal Sensor Override and Vent Heat are on CD, which probably would only happen on a boss fight. Im confused.

Is this for PVP only? Other classes lvl 34 ability's have similar restrictions, but they all seem at least usable.

IA/Smugglers get Headshot.(30m, but has the same Incap req, doesnt seem to have CD)
JK/SW get Opportune Strike/Savage Kick(4m, but has slowed/immoble req, 15s CD)
JC/SI get Forcequake/Force Storm(very high cost, 30m, NO CD nor other restriction)

Anyone have any idea whats goin on with this?

Its a PvE ability mostly used for leveling purposes , nothing more to say tbh.

So, that trooper skill that was sorta mentioned a while back, the one that summons a republic soldier to fight along your side for 1 minute (it was a high level ability), is it still around or have they removed it?
