Hey guys, This is the topic that brought me to this site. Without worrying to much about the exact specs of a PC, I wanted to talk about what the main factors are in PvP lag and how someone should go about upgrading whatever PC they may have to get better performance.
I know the easiest cheapest way it to lower all the graphics settings, which still leaves you with a good looking game.
And a fast internet connection doesn't hurt.
But what are the other things a person should increase/or fine tune on there pc to get a smoother game in PvP matches.

I'm no expert, but in my experience a solid video card and plenty of RAM are vital. I'm personally low on RAM at the moment. Need to be upgrading it here pretty soon.

Swtor is mainly CPU intensive first, then GPU intensive game. So of course, have a good CPU and GPU along with the RAM to carry it. I would say from an overall gameplay perspective as of tweaks, make sure swtor is the only program open and running during gameplay, as this will make more resources free to process swtor, hence making the load less.
Of course a good internet connection is a must, however, you can try WTFast Ping if you have a higher latency. It works well with most MMO connections on siphoning out the "trash mobs" of our connections to the server, making the connection smoother. Results may vary, however.
I know that sometimes if you know your rig is running good hardware and are still experiencing some lag issues, you can set your priority (from task manager) on the game to the highest priority and that sometimes gives your CPU the go-ahead to give Starwars the most power. This simple fix helped me a TON.
Nice post Deftonephila!!! It really helped in improving the performance of the CPU. Looking forward for more such stuff...

I tried to do this, but it tells me I can't because I don't have permission to do it. Why would this be? I'm the only user of the computer, ever. How can I change it so I do have the correct permissions?
My mobo manufacturer, ASROCK, has an application that it comes with called X-Fast LAN. I can't remember what the commercially available name of the program is (it's re-branded), but it's basically a traffic shaping application. It lowers ping or raises bandwidth depending on how you administer it. I think low ping is one of the most important factors in competitive play, so that's my addition. I go from about ~70ms to ~50 with the traffic shaping enabled and favoring latency.
@Oramac If you choose the option "Show All users", or something similar to that, it will bypass that message and you should be able to change the priority on your processes list.

Thank you for this. That did the trick perfectly. Never would have thought to try it since I'm the only user.
