[DAILY] Plaguebearer

2012-04-16 19:20:33

Hello this is Masterkiller from MMO-Mechanics and I’m going to walk you through the [DAILY] Plaguebearer mission chain. If you see anything missing or any incorrect information please drop me a comment so I can get update the guide.

Quick Summary:
You need to have a codex entry for the Rakghoul Pandemic event. You must blow up and infect another player to obtain the mission. You must infect 10 players total to complete the quest.

Detailed Summary:
Plaguebearer is a daily mission originating on Tatooine that allows you to infect your fellow players. You also get to explode into a ball of gas and goo that would make Professor Putricide proud.

The requirements to begin the Plaguebearer mission is not completely defined. We are still running some tests but we do know that if you do not have any codex entries and have not engaged in the Rakghoul Pandemic event that you not get the Plaguebearer mission. You can get the infection, blow up, spread the infection, and receive DNA samples but NOT get the Plaguebearer mission. So if you have a very low level alt that you want to farm Rakghoul DNAs on the fleet, you can read below on how to do so. I was able to obtatin 20 Rakghoul DNA samples by infecting other players on the fleet on my level 16 alt without the Plaguebearer mission.

We do know that if you have begun the mission chain at the  Wreck of the Stardream (but not completed it) that you can get the Plaguebearer mission.

1. To guarantee getting the mission, head to Wreck of the Stardream. This will ensure you get a codex entry for the event. Take the taxi to Outpost Zaroshe (Empire) or Outpost Thorazan (Republic).

2. Engage an Infected NPC in the area of the Stardream or any npc or player that has the Rakghoul infection. Each successful attack that lands has a chance to infect the target with the Rakghoul infection. You will need to get infected to begin the Plaguebearer mission.

3. Now you have the Rakghoul virus and your death is imminent. This is actually great news if you want to infect other players, not so good if you planned on retiring somewhere many years down the road. You now have around 20-25 minutes before you explode into a mess of slime and goo.

You will go through 2 phases of the virus before exploding.

Infection Phase 1 “Lightheaded”
The first phase is “Lightheaded” and lasts about 10 minutes. During this time you will not notice any changes in your character.

Infection Phase 2 “Feverish”
The second phase is “Feverish”. Your eyes will glow red and your body will radiate green “smoke” or whatever you wish to call it. It is obvious that you are infected with something bad.

During the feverish phase, you will puke twice. After the second puke, you need to find a player to infect. You will be dying soon and what better way to show the galaxy you care than to share your gift with another player and ensure that the galaxy will continue to battle this pandemic. Find an uninfected player quickly.

Below is what you will look like a few moments before you explode.

If another player was in range of the explosion (~10m) when you blew up and you infected them, you should receive the “Plaguebearer” mission. You will now need to infect 9 other players to complete the mission.

How to easily complete the mission
You can try to chase players around Tatooine and infect them and hope that they are in range when you explode but the easiest way is to head to the Fleet. At the time of this writing there are many groups of players that are afk on the fleet infecting and re-infecting each other continually. Park your toon in one of these parties and make sure you stay logged in. It is cheap, but I figured I would include it in this guide because it is widely practiced. If these parties are no longer going on by the time you read this, I still recommend heading to your fleet. Players will idle at the fleet for long periods. The GTN is a great place to share your plague to unsuspecting players.

Quest Reward
Upon completion of the quest you will receive 5 Rakghoul Vaccines (for removing the infection) and 4,305 credits at level 50.

Please note that switching areas, etc. will reset the timer on the plague’s current phase. So if you keep travelling, you ward off the progress of the plague.

This completes the [DAILY] Plaguebearer overview. Thank you for reading and please feel free to leave me a comment if something needs to be fixed.
